Dictionary - WordMate 0.7 beta

Postby wmhongbo » Fri Oct 10, 2008 12:54 am

WordMate is an universal dictionary application.

Itself doesn't contain any data, instead, you can download many dictionary databases on the Internet, or even make your own dictionary.

WordMate can read .dwm format and Stardict format files as dictionary databases.

To use them, copy dictionary data files into /wordmate folder in SDCard.

Hi wmhongbo,

downloading dictionaries on demand, seems nice :)

Are that real dictionaries, like the complete Oxford Dictionary :?:

however the other 3 are real 8)

There is an oxford dictionary on Stardict website.
WordMate supports Stardict format now so its real :)

Ummm... it is asking me to overwrite the android application... Just for kicks and giggles I tried to install it... and it failed. I think you were using an old SDK maybe for the emulator?

 That's weird if its the 1st time you try to install it. The 0.7 beta is compiled with 1.0 SDK, Release 1.
What exactly the error message you got?

or you can try "adb uninstall hongbo.wordmate" if u're using emulator

That error happens to me on every apk I load from the web. (I also cannot download from the market *wohoo* )
Its probably because we don't have the latest firmware (Which is 1.0 on my G1 and a slightly higher one might be needed).

The only way of installing for me is via USB  Howto

It tells me it is going to overwrite another package and shows me the android package. Then it say the install was unsuccessful... no other info given.

I have enabled it to install from unknown sources. and I finally got it to install thru USB. I find it weird that some install fine over the web and others don't.... maybe it is because I am using a higher RC version than the SDK is. Hopefully a new SDK is out soon.

How to find the "/sdcard" location?

Postby kevin1 » Tue Oct 28, 2008 3:04 am

I was able to successfully install WordMate. It's a cool program! I also downloaded the .dwm file to my SD card. However, I don't have a file browser program so I could not put the dictionary file to the location "/sdcard/wordmate/"

Can someone help?

Many thanks!

Connect your G1 via USB to your Desktop computer (you might need to turn on "Use as SD card & phone Storage" in settings) then copy the dictionaries from your desktop to the sd-card of your G1 as if it was an USB-Stick.

You can manually uninstall any app (at least you should). Here is a way described how to do that: http://href.to/17H

Thanks for your help! I was able to copy files to Android via USB. The problem was that the /wordmate/ was not there.

I solved the problem after following steps:

1. When running WordMate for the first time, the Android phone should not be connected to PC. This will allow WordMate to create the wordmate/ directory.

2. After moving the dictionary file to the wordmate/ directory, when running WordMate, it still complains about no dictionary being found. However, after unplugging the Android phone from PC and re-run WordMate, it worked perfectly!
