What should I look for? Backflip poor performance.

I am testing my application on a Motorola Droid. It runs well (30+ FPS). A friend let me try it on his Backflip. It runs but has two major problems: 1) runs really slow (3-5 FPS). 2) most textures are not displayed. I can't test on this consistently, so I want to have my ducks in a row for the next opportunity I get.

(1) Runs slow - this could be that OpenGl is in SW render mode. I will put in some diagnostics to display this. Is there something to do to insure that it uses HW mode? Is there anything else to look for? Could this just be a too much floating point math issue?

(2) Most textures not displayed - Curious about this one. I have a single texture in my app for which I turn off lighting before rendering. This texture looks fine. All other textures, which are rendered with lighting on, are not displayed. I get gray shaded objects. Anything specific to look for here?

Are you using GLSurfaceView? Do you specify any GLConfig specs for GLSurfaceView? I could only image that some stuff you request which the hardware can't do forces it to go to software rendering.
Also I guess it would be worth checking which GPU the backflip has, which scores it has in any OpenGL benchmark, SpriteMethodTest, ... .
